Nursery Class Policy

Assessment : Recording : Reporting

Assessment is a continuous process in the nursery classroom and should record aspects of the 'whole' child and not just the intellectual and cognitive.

Our policy is to:

  • observe each child closely throughout the nursery year, so that areas of strength and areas requiring further development may be diagnosed.

  • record observations, using statements from the 5 key aspects of the curriculum.

  • use observations as the basis for transition records and to plan a balanced curriculum.

  • liaise with parents annually on an appointment basis but also by mutual request at other times.

  • liaise with parents of special needs children as required.

Peer/Self Assessment:

When children have discovered a new 'technique' they are encouraged to share their discovery with others as a stimulus for their future activities.

Children are encouraged from an early age to evaluate their own 'work', and the work of their peers.
