The following notes compare the HTML version with the original printed text:-
- Illustrations
- These where scanned at 240dpi then reduced to 120dpi.
- The gold on blue of "The South-east dome with the shutter open" represents the view of the cover.

- Italic text has been preserved, as have é ü etc.
- Where occasionally the names of astronomer royals appeared in capitals, I have replaced in lowercase bold instead.
- Where the original index gave no details in an entry, e.g Assistants, position of, 98. 100, 117, 137. I have added my own text to further detail the contents.
- The following typographical errors have been corrected...
