LANGUAGE AND LITERACY
There are four components here:
Speaking and Listening
Every child will be encouraged to develop fluent speech and an ability to express
themselves clearly.
Reading
Every child will be taught the skills required to be able to read with understanding and
enjoyment.
Writing
Every child will be given various writing opportunities which will help to develop an
ability to express effectively ideas, feelings and experiences.
Literature
Every child will be offered a wide range of quality stories, poems and plays which will
enrich their experience of the written word.
MATHEMATICS
The maths scheme covers four main strands:
¥ Numbers and the number system
¥ Calculations
¥ Making sense of number problems
¥ Shape and Space
Integrated throughout is the use and application of Mathematics.
Our belief is that numeracy is an important life skill which needs to be taught.
Through our teaching methods we want children to develop an understanding and enthusiasm
for number.
SCIENCE
Through opportunities to perform hypothesis, observe, test, experiment, record,
investigate and draw conclusions the children are encouraged to adopt a scientific
approach to learning.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
The school follows the County's Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education called
"Religious Education in Northamptonshire". A copy of this syllabus is
available in school for parents to see if they wish to do so. Children attend daily
assemblies, either as a whole school or in age groups. Children can be excused on
receipt of a written request from parents. This also applies to Religious Education
lessons.
It would be helpful if in these cases the parents could see the Headteacher personally.
