PERSONAL AND SOCIAL EDUCATION We aim to give children an awareness of the need to care for their own bodies. We teach them to apply the knowledge of safety education in the home, at play, on the roads, as well as in school. No formal Sex Education lessons are given. It is our policy to deal with children's questions on this matter factually and honestly as they arise. Pupils' questions are answered sensitively and in a matter of fact way appropriate to the child's age and maturity.
BEHAVIOUR At Booth Lower School we strive to create a caring, family atmosphere in which teaching, learning and playing can take place in a safe and happy environment. We promote positive behaviour, we encourage self-discipline and nurture a respect for themselves, for other people and property.
We keep punishments to a minimum. If we have a serious worry concerning a child's behaviour we contact parents so that we can work together to encourage a change in behaviour. Corporal Punishment is not used in the school in accordance with a policy introduced by the Education Committee and as now required by the Education (No. 2) Act 1986.
CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Arrangements are made for children who have particular learning difficulties, or who are well above average, to be given extra help by individual and/or group tuition as appropriate. From time to time the school might seek advice from the School Psychological Service, or other support agencies. This will always be carried out with the parents prior knowledge and consent.
Further details regarding the provision of education for those with special needs and abilities can be found in the Authority's publication "Children with Special Education Needs - A Handbook for Parents".
