Using Dough - The Dough Can Do - Some Sticky Picture


In the DOUGH/CLAY area I CAN

Language and Literacy Development

......talk about what I am going to make. Talk about what I have made, make patterns and marks with tools, create and act out stories using the models I have made. Name the tools I have used.

Mathematical development

.....roll, cut, share, divide, make shapes, numbers, letters, compare the length, thickness of my model with others. Measure things using dough, talk about thick/thin, long/short, describe and name shapes.

Physical development

..... use my hands to make different shapes and patterns, use my fingers to pull/press/roll, feel different textures.

Creative Development

.....draw a plan of what I am going to make, make/dry/paint my model, talk about and improve my model, use other materials to make my model  e.g. shells/pasta/sticks/beads/buttons/straw.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

....make animals/people/objects/shapes, name and use different tools, dry out my model. Compare how wet/dry clay behaves in water, feel the dough/clay and talk about how it feels, test what happens to the dough/clay after a long time, ask questions e.g. why do we put the lid on the clay/ dough container, test what will grow on the clay stretch the dough.

Personal and Social Development

.......share with my friends,act out my feelings,  choose the tools to use, role play e.g. cooking/birthdays  tidy up and put away.
