It possible to buy "playdough". However there are problems with it. Bought dough tends to crumble and dry out and is very expensive.

Dough made from the basic ingredients of flour, salt, and water is easy to make, inexpensive and lasts for ages. Above all it has a lovely pliable texture. Once the basic recipe has been mastered variations can be made e.g. stretchy dough, sticky dough.

Dough is versatile and nearly all children enjoy working with it. They love the feel of squeezing dough as do most adults! The following pages illustrate the learning experiences that can be encouraged by using dough.

At Brearley we hold dough making workshops for parents - great as a first workshop - and good fun too!!
