Eastside Racing is a motor project based on the Sydenham Estate, but open to all the young people of Bridgwater.
Hovercraft racing is fast and furious and takes place on courses of mixed land and water, up to a mile long and with the number of laps depending on the formula being raced.
The project uses the maintenance and racing of Formula and 3 hovercraft as a basis for the development of essential skills such as;
Mechanical engineering
Problem Solving
Co-operation and teamwork
Acceptance of responsibility
One of the very real benefits of being involved with the project is the fact that so far, only one young person who has hoped to get an apprenticeship has failed
In 1997, the team is working with Honda Power Products to develop one of their engines for use in the new Formula 25. To date, this craft has had a podium place in every meeting entered.
Simon Kearle represented the group and his nation at the 1997 World Championships, taking fourth place with a craft which struggled throughout for power.
