Composing Music For Games

When you are writing the music for a game you have to remember what the theme is in the game when this music is played - e.g if the main character has just died then the main theme would not exactly be a raging party mood would it? You also have to remember what style your game is e.g if it is set in space in the year 2097 then you would probably not want to have lots of banjo music.

The first thing you should write is the main tune. You might want to bring that back that tune in a different key at different points in the game.

Once you have the tune then work out the chords. I am not going to go into harmony right now but if you are not to sure then keep it simple. Try to stay with chords I, IV and V with their inversions i.e. if your main key is C major then try to use just C major(chord I) F major(chord IV) and G major(chord V).

This file is at a very early stage. If you want to add to it or if there is something you would like to see added to it then email me.
