Remind pupils to read instructions carefully and to ask for help if they do not understand.

When ready, click on 'Begin Lesson'.

3 minutes Pupils to read explanation page. This could be done as a class activity with pupils suggesting further anachronisms possibly for the time period that they are studying.
4 minutes Pupils to complete picture jigsaw and to try to spot the anachronisms in the picture.
5 minutes Pupils move on to 'Spot the Anachronism'. There are points ten hidden anachronisms in the picture. Pupils click around the picture and are told if they are right or wrong.

The anachronisms are - TV aerial, clock, tractor, zebra crossing, flask, bicycle, crash helmet, glasses, personal cassette player, headphones.

2 minutes To check understanding, pupils now have to complete a sentence taken from the explanation page. The missing words are dragged and dropped into place using the mouse.
20 minutes Pupils to write their own 'Anachronism Story' in the form provided. As an incentive to pupils I am offering to publish a selection of stories received on this site.

Pupils can see some of the stories published on the next page. This may also be helpful for lower ability pupils to give them some ideas about what to write.

If you wish to print the stories - place the mouse curser next to the first letter, hold the left mouse button down and drag to the bottom right corner of the story. Click copy on the browser bar. Open Word and click paste. The story can now be printed.

15 minutes This can be used to go over answers as a whole class.

Pupils could be allowed to play some of the history games on this site.

Further historical research could be done using the pages on this site or from the A-Z of History.

5 minutes Pupils to log off and leave the room clean and tidy
