The poinsettia or "Flower of the Holy Night" as the Mexican people call it, bears bright red flowers at Christmas. The legend behind the Christmas flower is about a young girl who wanted to take a gift on Christmas eve to lay before baby Jesus at midnight mass. She had nothing and no money. Angels appeared to her on the way to mass and told her to pick a bunch of weeds. As she walked into church everyone laughed at her but as they mocked the end of each branch burst into beautiful red flowers.
