We arrived, very late for us, at about 6.15 on Friday evening. My husband had to work on Friday, the first time in the last 13 years so we have not done too badly! I had packed the family car...he arrived home saying Peggy has been on the radio saying to take wellies etc. We borrowed one son's little Susuki four by four...tiny to say the least, piled people in then belongings on top! It was an extremely uncomfortable journey but as we approached we could see signs saying the route was changed due to floods, some fields were closed because of floods, we decided that it was probably the best car to have with us.
The Richard Thompson Band walked on stage and the heavens opened! I was wandering about to take photographs! We took shelter under a stall... the water was running into their spotlights, puddles were forming above the cables, it was pretty dramatic. The sound system failed...water got into the electrics on stage... the band and crowd waited patiently and soggily! The sound came back and the band started. They were absolutely brilliant. The rain got harder and heavier, it let up for a few seconds and started again.
Somewhere towards the end of Richard's set we gave up! Unforgivable I know but they started pushing the cars out from the backstage, we were soaked to the skin and sat in puddles despite having two ground sheets, fishing umbrellas and waterproofs. So by midnight, when we should be watching Barrage in a field about 30 miles away I am putting this onto the Internet! Sorry folks!
