Ballyhenry Nursery School

Ballyhenry Nursery School is situated in Glengormley, between Ballyhenry Primary School and Glengormley High School. The nursery was opened in 1975 with an enrolment of 75 children 15 of whom attended on a full-time basis and the remaining 60 children attended the part-time classes in the morning and the afternoon.
From September 2000 all the children enrolled in the nursery will attend full-time classes i.e. 9.00 am – 1.30 pm.

The principal of the nursery is Mrs Gill Burnside B.Ed (Hons), her assistant teacher is Mrs Rosemary Robinson and her two nursery assistants are Mrs Pat McArdle and Mrs Helen Shanks. Mrs Burnside, Mrs Robinson and Mrs McArdle have been in post since the nursery was opened. Mrs Shanks joined the nursery staff in 1996 following the retirement of Mrs Burnison. All the staff has had a very wide range of experience in working with young children, both in Ballyhenry Nursery School and in other settings.

In Ballyhenry Nursery School we provide a broad and well-balanced curriculum, taking into consideration the developmental stage of each individual child. We aim to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere where the children will enjoy new experiences and build on previous experiences, with the support and help of experienced staff, which will enable them to continue their education with a positive attitude to learning. In Ballyhenry Nursery School we recognise that parents are the first educators of their children and therefore we value their support throughout the year, but most especially in making the transition from home to school a successful and happy experience. The staff in the nursery work very closely as a team and value the important role of parents as partners in their children’s education.
