Cuilrath Corner Nursery School was opened in 1999 as a result of the North Eastern Education and Library Board working in partnership with health and social services trust to provide, in a joint venture, a combined Nursery Education and Community Centre.

Originally set up as an integrated nursery unit to feed Harpurs Hill and St Malachys Primary Schools, the nursery offers 26 full-time places. The head of the unit, Mrs K. Houmann-Green, is ably assisted by Mrs G. Emerson both of whom have years of experience working with young children. Our facilities include a large playroom with adjoining kitchen, office, toilets and covered play area which leads to an enclosed outdoor play area. The nursery is presently working with the Conservation Volunteers to create a wild life garden to complement our attractive environment.

Our children follow a progressive programme of educational activities encompassing the usual areas of learning….Personal, Social, Emotional, Physical and Intellectual. The holistic nature of the nursery curriculum provides many opportunities for individuals or small groups of children to work on topics of particular interest to them throughout the year. A feature of our nursery is the creative approach to learning which we adopt.

Parental input is highly valued and encouraged, with parents working in partnership with the nursery in a variety of ways e.g. parent workshops, fund raising events, activity days, and parent / teacher meetings. Our nursery aims to promote the development of self-esteem and independence. By providing opportunities for success we endeavour to foster a sense of pride and achievement in everything done. We also attempt to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment in which positive attitudes to learning are encouraged.
