Mossgrove Nursery is a purpose built nursery attached to the Primary School. It’s facilities are safe and suitable for young children. The nursery teacher and assistant are professionally trained in the educational development of pre-school children. They work as a close team to produce a friendly and caring learning environment. The nursery accommodates 52 part-time pupils, with 26 in the morning session operating between 9.00 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. and 26 in the afternoon session operating between 12.30 p.m. and 3.00 p.m.. We like all our children to have the benefit of their full time in the nursery by arriving no later than 10 minutes after the starting time. This also assists with the smooth running of the nursery. In Mossgrove we aim to create a stimulating and enjoyable safe and secure environment where nursery children can learn through their structured play in a happy, relaxed atmosphere. The broad and balanced experiences and activities are planned to meet the needs of individual children taking into account their previous experiences and differing developmental stages. By using a wide and attractive variety of stimulating nursery equipment individual children are encouraged to develop personal, social, emotional, physical, mathematical, intellectual, scientific and language skills. Children’s play is monitored and evaluated on a continuous basis by the staff to ensure progress. Through investigating and exploring their surroundings children are motivated and challenged to respond to changes and new experiences to gain a knowledge and appreciation of their environment. They are encouraged to develop a positive self image through experiencing success thus laying good foundations for further educational development. The majority of children transfer to P1 at the end of the academic year.
