Have
a Look Inside
What
is a Nursery School?
Between the ages
of 0 and 5 children develop rapidly and therefore quality experiences
are valuable.
So what
is Nursery Education all about?
Mossley Nursery
School was designed and built especially for pre-school children.
It was opened in 1975 and is financed by the North Eastern Education
and Library Board. The teachers are professionally trained and have
qualified nursery assistants working alongside them.
Parents
are the children’s first educators and are involved in settling them
into the nursery. We aim to build a trusting relationship with the
parents in which the child can feel secure.
The teachers
are aware of each individual child’s development. The curriculum is
planned and provides attractive play materials. With their specialist
training they can ensure that the quality and depth of experience
meet the children’s needs thus providing an extension of the stimulation,
care and experience of a good home.
Learning
experiences are provided which permit each child to develop his/her
intellect, to communicate, to make choices, to develop a healthy body
and lively mind, and to relate to others. The children are helped
to form relationships with their peers and with adults outside the
family circle thus promoting the child’s confidence. The child will
work and play with others, learning to share and take turns. The provision
of paint and craft materials, sand, water, dough and clay encourage
the child to be creative and expressive.
Books are
widely available within the nursery and to borrow on a weekly loan.
Stories and rhymes contribute to the child’s language. Learning to
communicate is a complex task and opportunities are given for children
to express themselves and extend their vocabulary.
Nursery School
is the first step of your child’s education. Good experiences in the
early years provides a foundation to be built upon throughout the
educational system.
The
Principles of Nursery Education
The policy, practice,
and provision within Mossley Nursery School are based on the following
principles
| |
Education
is concerned with the whole child |
| |
Parents
are valued as their children’s first educators and are viewed
as active partners in the continuing process of
education
|
| |
For young
children, play is their right and is an essential and
rich part
of the learning process. Play is a child’s work.
|
| |
Acceptance,
love, approval, encouragement and security are vital
to the development of the young child.
|
| |
The child’s
past experiences, individual attributes and abilities
should be recognised, accepted and built upon.
|
| |
High quality
interaction with skilled and knowledgeable adults
is crucial to the child’s learning.
|
Our
Aim
The
policy of this school is that each child is accepted as a unique individual
and sharing in the relationship already established with parents,
an attempt is made to create a safe, secure, stimulating and happy
environment in which the child can develop to his/her full potential.
How
Much Will It Cost?
NOTHING
!
We are a Nursery School run by the North Eastern Education and Library
Board. The Nursery Education your child receives is free. However, we
supply your child with a snack of milk and fruit and ask for £1.00 per
week. This snack fund also pays for Birthday Parties, Christmas Parties,
dough and baking ingredients, hamster food, small equipment and other
sundries.
What
Will Your Child Do?
