St Joseph’s Nursery School is purpose built and located in the grounds of St Joseph’s Primary School. The building is bright and spacious with a warm, welcoming environment and a wide range of resources to ensure a varied programme of quality learning experiences. There is an outdoor play area that is used on a regular daily basis. This includes a partially covered veranda with a large area of safety surface, a circular sandpit, small grassy area and an expanse of tarmac.

The school first opened in September 1975 and since then there has been a high demand for places therefore the school operates a mixed pattern of attendance, offering both part-time and full-time places.

The nursery school curriculum is broad and balanced; it acknowledges the fact that each child is unique and will learn in a different way and at a different rate. We are aware that it is necessary to be flexibile in approach in order to allow children to develop their personal interests and a positive attitude to learning. Each child is encouraged to be inventive and independent. The qualified and experienced staff are constantly planning and evaluating to ensure that each child is making progress and that the nursery environment offers security, challenge, progression and fun. All children can access a wide range of learning opportunities through which s/he can express ideas, develop individual competence and skills.

We appreciate the important role that parents play as the child’s first educators and value the information that each parent may provide about his/her child’s learning style. Therefore we like to spend time developing a positive link with each parent, particularly during the settling in period. We also provides many opportunities for parents to participate in activities that contribute to the life of the nursery school. They may offer help in the school, accompany us on visits to the local library as well as joining our Parents Association. We have developed a worthwhile cross community link with Steeple nursery school and enjoy many outings and events together throughout the year.
We believe that the skills and attitudes fostered in our nursery school provide each child with a firm foundation for lifelong learning.

A prospectus which provides more information about the life of the nursery school can be obtained on request.
