Name: J K Rowling

DOB: 31/7/65

She was born in Chipping Sodbury, Gloustershire, England.

She wrote her first story when she was five or six about a rabbit called ‘Rabbit’ who got the measles and was visited by Miss Bee.

Whilst growing up, Joanne, (her name), moved house twice. First, from Yate to Winterbourne. Whilst there, she made friends with a brother and sister whose last names where ‘Potter’. She liked this name better than hers because they were always calling her Joanne Rolling-Pins.

When she was 9 she moved again to Tutshill. After attending Tutshill Primary, she went to Wyedean Comprehensive.

Joanne describes herself as a 9 year old as quiet, freckly, shortsighted, and rubbish at sport. Her favourite subjects were English and Modern Languages. She used to tell her friends stories involving them doing heroic deeds they’d never do in real life.

Straight away after school she went to Exeter University to study French. After graduation she spent a while as the ‘worst secetary ever’!

In 1990, (when she was 26), she moved to Portugal to teach English. She says she loved to teach. Well I say, If you love to teach, why become an Author? Then I found out that she wrote in the mornings and taught in the afternoon, (sorry!).

She started to write her 3rd story, (she abandoned the first 2 because they were, ‘Very Bad’). The new book was about a boy who found he was a wizard and was sent to ‘Hogwarts’.

HARRY POTTER!
