Brambletye School Year 7 (1997-98)
Visit to the Science Museum

Boys from the 7th Year of Brambletye School, East Grinstead, set out for a trip to the Wellcome Trust and Science Museum in London.

Our first stop was at the Wellcome Trust. This part of the trip was split into three sections. The first section was about Life Science, this was also a hands on section. After looking at parts of the body we moved on to a section which was meant to be the inside of a cell but obviously much enlarged!! After visiting the inside of the cell we went to a section on diseases and cures. This section was also part hands on, by this I mean that we could check our pulse for instance.

On arrival to the Science Museum we went to the school dining area where we had our lunch. After lunch we left the dining area to go to the Science of sport. At the Science of sport we looked around and took part in the many activities that were available throughout the department. The equipment open to our use were a Volleyball simulation, football target arena, many different sport facts, a short athletics sprint, tennis targets, a climbing wall and many other facilities.

After a much enjoyed hour or so at the Science of sport, everyone split up into several groups. At this point we dispersed throughout the museum to different sections which contained many types of scientific subjects. A few of these were : telecommunications, the art of science and medicine, the secret life of the home, farming and agriculture and so on... In these different sections we researched many different aspects. The duration of this lasted approximately an hour and a half to gather together as much information as possible on the subject we had chosen to research. A show on food and genetics was included in the program for the afternoon.

This outing was much enjoyed by everyone at Brambletye who was involved. It is a definite outing for all ages.
