The Fastest Fighter

The World’s fastest fighter is the Mig-25 Foxbat. It was created by the Russians. The American B-70 bomber was a threat to the Russians, so they developed the Mig-25 Foxbat to deal with the American bombers. When the B-70 bomber was cancelled in 1960. Moscow continued with the construction and so the world’s fastest and interceptor was created.
There was only one aircraft that could keep up with the Foxbat and that was the harmless unarmed American Blackbird.
As well as being the fastest fighter the Foxbat is the world’s biggest interceptor. A pilot and his ground crew when standing next to the Foxbat would be tiny in comparison.

The Engine

The Mig 25 Foxbat was powered by two 109.84-kN Tumanskii R-31 afterburning turbojets. These engines deliver over eleven tonnes of thrust.
The Foxbat’s engine can take the craft up to speeds of mach 3 but normally it stays at mach 2.8 (3120 km/h).

The Armament

The Foxbat is armed only with air to air weapons as it is an interceptor. It has four AA-6 ‘Acrid’ long-range air-to-air missiles or two AA-6 missilesand two AA-7 ‘Apex’ missiles. It had no cannon or other light weapons.

Technical Details

The Foxbat has a maximum speed of mach 3. It has a maximum altitude of 24000 metres. It weighs 20000 kilograms empty and 36200 kilograms loaded.
