Cherwell School is situated a mile to the north of Oxford city centre, near Summertown. Summertown has a large selection of shops, it is useful for after school and lunch to buy food, snacks etc...People attend Cherwell from a wide catchment area. It is popular and at present is over subscribed. There are 970 pupils in the school, 340 of them are in the sixth form. The school offers a wide range of subjects, and has recently added GNVQs as a possibility in the sixth form.
The school has a very relaxed attitude. We don't have a uniform and are allowed to wear anything within reason, and people do! There are strict rules about wearing" crop-tops", you may have read about it in "The Sun". There are not very many social aspects to the school, most people socialise after school and at weekends. There is a small amount of bullying, sometimes. It depends on who you go round with, who you are and where you come from.
The teachers are all right, most of them are quite friendly if you stay on their good side. Cherwell School is on a large site but there are a lot of temporary classrooms and there are plans to build a new languages and humanities block. There are football, basketball and netball teams and there is a group of people who row. There has recently been a group of year 9's doing fencing as well. The school uses the sports hall next to the Ferry Centre in Summertown.
The school has a link with World Challenge and is running a trip to Uganda next summer. Pupils who wish to go have to raise two thousand five hundred pounds, the trip is also organised by the pupils. The school does run less extravagant trips like to Glasbury which is an activities centre in Wales. When you are there you get an opportunity to go abseiling, caving, mountain walking, canoeing and camping. It is really worth going as you learn new things about yourself and other people. The school runs a ski trip every year. For the last three years it has been to Austria and has been great every time. Next year they are planning a trip to Canada which should be good!
