The story is about a young man called Mr Fawley and his ambition as a youth to go to Christminster. His ambitions are foiled because of his social class and the intense relationship that starts to develop with his cousin Bridehead. The book is very interesting in many aspects. It shows how society can treat people and often destroy them, in this case because of Jude's social background. It also touches on relationships and fidelity and how this can lead to someone's downfall. It is a depressing novel but at the same time very interesting and well written.
