Without the industry revolution and the
consequent workers who came to live in Patricoft to
be near their work, there would have been no
necessity for the Christ Church Schools to be
built.
According to the Salford Weekly News
in an article printed the year before
at the laying of the foundation stone by the then
Bishop of Manchester...`Patricoft contained a
population of some 6,000 souls,... when the new
schools were completed they would afford
accommodation for 512 children'.
The schools are now amalgamated into one and has
recently acquired a further building in the form of
the previously known Dorning Street Nursery now
know as our 3-5 years unit. The schools has a long
history of providing education for the children of
this area, having been opened in 1972 as a church
school. Today`s building has been enlarged and
modernised, and control of administration and
funding has passed from the Church to the City of
Salford Education Department, which gives us our
official titles Christ Church (Patricoft) C.E
(Controlled) Primary School usually shortened to
Christ Church C.E Primary School.
The school is a one form entry primary school
with eight classes of 28 pupils, 220 in all.
The present Head teacher, Mr. Stewart A.L
Ballantyne was appointed in September, 1983.
