English

Information for Year 6 pupils

English is a subject you will use all the time, for listening, speaking, reading and writing. We will help you to enjoy doing all these things more effectively.

You will read a wide variety of stories, poems and plays - including Shakespeare. You will write in all kinds of ways. You will do drama and discuss issues.

Outside the classroom we offer you the chance to perform for others, to visit the theatre, join the lunchtime English club and write a story for publication.

Everyone will spend time reading silently during the week and so you will need to have a book with you.

Which play written by this man has a character in it called Romeo?

Information for Parents

The course encourages a sense of pride and pleasure in written and spoken language, and aims to develop the ability to make sound critical judgements. The department has been involved in National Literacy research initiatives to develop the continuation of Literacy hour. We are also one of only three schools in the country to be involved in the development of Tape Assisted Reading.
