Mathematics

Information for Year 6 pupils

You will all need maths!

We aim to make your lessons interesting, challenging and fun by doing various kinds of things, such as puzzles, projects, investigations, research and practical work.

We use calculators and computers, practical apparatus and text books. You learn to work on your own, in pairs or groups. You will keep your work in a folder and be able to see how you are making progress with the National Curriculum by completing a record of achievement booklet.

Which Mathematician wrote a rule about the sides of a triangle?

Information for Parents

The National Curriculum course followed has an emphasis on numeracy, including mental arithmetic strategies and also encompasses practical and investigative work. Pupils are set according to ability in all three years. In addition, differentiated teaching materials are used throughout to ensure that the work of each pupil is appropriate, and that progress and achievement are maintained. Two investigative tasks are completed in Year 9 as preparation for work at the Upper School, to assist continuity.

A computerised individualised learning scheme called "Successmaker" is also utilised to improve the numeracy skills of pupils.
