Information for Year 6 pupils

What is it?    Gymnastics, Fitness, Swimming, Dance, Athletics and Foundation.

Boys Kit List: 
Indoor - White shorts , White tee shirt & Trainers.
Outdoor - Black Shorts, Gold Top, Boots.
Swimming - Trunks & Towel.

Girls Kit List:
Indoor - (Dance/Gymnastics) White tee shirt, Black: Catsuit/Leotard, Tights or leggings.
Outdoor - (Foundation/Fitness) Black pleated skirt,  White tee shirt & Trainers.
Swimming - Swimsuit & Towel.

Tracksuits are allowed in extremely cold weather, but this is at the discretion of the PE staff and other correct kit should be worn as well.

Ear Studs & watches must be removed and trainers laces must be done up for Health & Safety reasons during these lessons.

Fitness/Athletics - involves looking at healthy lifestyles, testing your fitness, sprinting, distance running, jumps and throws.

Foundation - involves building on skills such as: spacing, running, passing, marking, defending and striking that are used in most games.

Swimming - We aim to make sure that you can all swim. We improve your stroke, build up your stamina and make sure that you understand water safety.

Dance/Gymnastics - In dance, you will be working in groups on simple ideas to compose dances. In gymnastics you will be exploring ways of travelling, rotation and balance to create sequences of movement that can be performed both on the floor and apparatus.

The school holds the prestigious award of Sports Mark.

Information for Parents

Physical Education at Castle Rock incorporates both PE and Games in the National Curriculum. In all years the PE groups are mixed, and the games groups are single sex groups. Both offer a variety of learning experiences which will encourage and develop an individual's potential.

In Games, football, rugby, strike and field activities (cricket, softball, rounders) are taught to boys, with hockey, netball and strike and field activities being taught to girls. In Year 9 tennis is taught to both boys & girls.

In Years 7 and 8 in PE, basketball, gymnastics, dance, health related fitness and athletics are taught to both boys and girls in mixed sex groups. Swimming is taught in Year 7 as an extra module of work.

In Year 9 in PE, basketball and athletics are taught along with two award schemes, these being the Pentathlete Award and Castle Rock Coaching Award.
