Citizenship 1, Tutorial & Monitoring

Information for Year 6 pupils

You will have a lesson with your form tutor and a lesson with a Citizenship teacher.During this time you will do lots of things to help you get to know your new friends,
your form teacher and yourself.

In the first term you will be encouraged to get to know your group and to make new friends. You will be helped to organise yourself and to be responsible for your learning.

You will also begin to collect points for the Community Awards. During your three years you could achieve your BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD and GOLD STAR awards.

We want to know about your interests, pets, hobbies and successes.

Are you a Dancer, Footballer, Scout, First Aider or Musician? Have you got any awards, badges, certificates? We want you to record all these things, so that you can own a file to be proud of at the end of the three years. (Start looking now for all those awards you've stuffed under your bed!)

Monitoring

All pupils are given time for their form tutors to talk about their progress in lessons. Targets such as improving hand-writing, extra help with reading, aiming to improve presentation of work are set. These targets are then looked at and talked about at the next monitoring lesson.

Record of Achievement

Pupils are presented with a Progress File when they leave Castle Rock which records their achievements and success in academic, personal and social fields. The academic part of the File records achievements in every lesson. Self assessment forms are an important component of the document.

Increasingly activities and achievements recorded whilst at primary school count towards the Progress File and our Community Award Scheme.

Careers Education & Guidance

Preparation for the world of work, which incorporates the principle of lifelong learning, takes place across the curriculum. Each subject area contributes towards the pupil progress file which is an important component of the process of career planning.

The majority of careers education takes place in the Tutorial/Citizenship programme. In Years 7 & 8 pupils focus on "awareness of self". This culminates in a Careers Educational Guidance programme in Year 9. The programme forms a module of the Leicestershire Vocational Framework. Pupils have the opportunity to complete further modules at King Edward VII Community College. Together with the careers module at Castle Rock, this will give them an opportunity to gain a qualification which is equivalent to a GCSE pass. The qualification is recognised by colleges in Leicestershire and the City of Leicester and can assist students in gaining entry to college courses.
