Ruishton
We are a small village near the county town of Taunton. We are far enough from town to
retain our village identity, while being close enough to enjoy the benefits.
The River Tone runs through Ruishton. In the 1960's
this was literally the case, when we had a lot of rain. Flood prevention work now keeps
control of the river.
There are some nice walks around the village. A particularly pleasant walk takes you across the fields, starting at "Goosey Lane", crossing the old abandoned Taunton to Chard railway line (I can remember as a young child, seeing the very last steam train use this track in the early 60's), then across another field to the even older disused Taunton to Ilminster canal and on to Creech Saint Michael.
