This project is looking at the possibility of using the Internet to enhance the science experience of groups of children age 8 to 10 years.
Communication is an important science skill and an integral part of a science investigation. Through communication children can realise that science is a tentative subject. They will be presented with other children's ideas and have to make decisions about valuing those ideas. With encouragement ideas or hypothesis are tested through experiment and the results are then communicated to other interested persons. The whole idea of communication...just like the construction of this document demands an ordering and evaluation of thoughts and ideas.
The context in which the science is delivered in a primary classroom is also important. This project looks at the teaching of some aspects of the science of materials in the context of the construction of a William Morris mosaic using clay tiles. The children at Deykin and Yew Tree are both working on the same topic. They will both be working in the same context. It is planned that they will communicate with each other using these pages and e-mail. These pages will therefore be a record of the events. They will contain photographs of the children involved, examples of there work and writings. Listed below are links to the main pages of this project.
