JERSEY
Jersey Squad Profiles

Seniors
Paul
Perchard
-
- Paul won his heat in the Home International last year, is ranked number one in Jersey
this year and has been paddling excellently, being unbeaten at going to press. Needs a
good whipping to shrink his head. Trying to finish himself off on our dodgiest reef only
served to cause the opposite, once he had stopped shaking!! Looking to improve on his
quarter final placing in Cost Rica.
Nigel
Holland
-
- Returning to the squad last year, after a ten year break, Nigel is back with us again in
Thurso complete with a new addition to his family, baby Catherine. Nigel comfortably won
his heat in the Home International last year. We are expecting more great things from him
this year.
Keith De La Haye
-Team "I told you we would run out of money" Treasurer.
-
- Making his fifth appearance in the squad Keith also will be travelling to Thurso with a
new addition to his family, baby Simon. (I am glad I am not next on this list.) Placing
second to Tim Thomas in the H.I. in Jersey, Keith is looking to improve on that in Thurso.
Marcus Ferbrache
-
- Returning to the squad for last years Home Internationals, Marcus is looking forward to
surfing the wave in Thurso. Big waves are his style. Still remembers beating that Discombe
character all those years ago!
Stuart McGlinchey -
Team Manager
- Tennis elbow (now there's a thing) has kept him out of the water since Christmas. Loads
of physio later he is still out of the water watching the guys having fun. He WILL be
paddling in Thurso. Won his heat in the H.I. in Jersey beating Malcolm Pearcey (now
there's another thing).
Len Van Halm
- Len joins the squad after getting into International Class surfing seriously earlier
this year, and is looking forward to the opportunity to surf the famous Thurso Wave in his
first year of kayak surfing. Len has a ludicrous amount of experience in expedition sea
paddling and he handles a touring boat in the surf like a dream. He is most certainly an
asset to the team (and possibly other adventurous paddlers) with his ability to repair
boats like new, and with the teams reputation that is now a necessity!!
Dennis Hey
- Dennis has spent many hours of "soul surfing" fun on the waves around the
Island in his Juggler, and has now decided to join the team and submit to one of those 3.5
meter boats. Dennis will be Jerseys' first ever entrant in the Masters individual event.
His training as a Psychiatric nurse is bound to come in handy at some point for somebody!
-
Richard Jones
- Paddling in the senior squad this year, Richard was one of the Jersey team in Costa
Rica. Richard has been paddling hard and improving consistently this season. He will be
rushing back from Australia to be in Thurso, wow this boy is keen!!
-
- John Richardson
-
- John has represented Jersey since its return to the International competition scene in
Wales '93 but has spent more time fighting fires this season than paddling. He still
favours big waves and is looking forward to tackling the famous Thurso reef. John's last
international success was at the Worlds in Costa Rica where he won his heat in what were
probably the biggest and cleanest waves of the event.
Juniors
Serge Peacock
-
- "Crocodile Peacock"; Team Brazils best mate in Costa Rica!; Infamous --- need
we say more!! Look out! He is surfing well.
- Andy Blampied
- Andy first surfed an International Class Surf Kayak back in July and has spent most of
his spare time preparing for the famous Thurso break, well mentally anyway!
Ladies
Allison Truscott
-
- Started her rush to the dizzy heights of membership of the Jersey team earlier this
year. Alli is Jersey's newest lady surfing star. Confident she can handle the Thurso
break, (she hasn't seen the "Big Thurso Video" yet--- and won't until we get
back!!!) She has beaten some of the men in this years ranking events.
Ailsa McDougall
Chartered Physiotherapist M.C.S.P. S.R.P. - Team Physiotherapist
-
- Having spent most of the year repairing two of the team, Ailsa has become the most
needed member of the Jersey Squad! At going to press Ailsa has paddled a kayak twice.
Maybe an entry to the Ladies individual event! Willing to offer her Physio services to any
injured competitors (after the Jersey team of course) for a small fee.
-
- Rachel Le Breton
- Another newcomer to the squad Rachel will first paddle an International Class Surf Kayak
in Thurso. An asset to the team and a perfect partner to Allison, being only narrowly
beaten into second place on the ranking list. A great cook, masseur, in great physical
shape, I mean FIT, wow! what a woman, and she washes dishes and irons clothes like a
dream. Cleaning up after the rest of the team is one of her best attributes. In fact of
all Rachel's greatest points the most important is that in fact she does not
exist................................YET!!
