tessellating triangles, squares and rectangles
This animation shows how triangles, rectangles and squares tessellate.

Then our teacher showed us a trick. If you get a square shape and cut it into two pieces and sellotape it back to back and draw around it, you see that it will tessellate. We made lots of tessellation shapes this way. Click on the labels to see two of them:

3: More Tesselation

The next week we had to make our own tessellating shapes. We got a box of 2D shapes to see if they fitted together. Some shapes fitted together without any gaps, and some did not.

Do you know which of these shapes tessellate?
Pass the cursor over the names to find out!
