| We opened in 1974 as a one-form entry
school. Between 1991 and 1993 a large extension and a nursery were built, and the school
is now two-form entry. We aim to offer good learning
opportunities in a calm friendly atmosphere where everyone has the right to learn. We hope
that the partnership between children, staff, governors and Croydon Education Authority
provides the ideal environment for effective learning to take place.

classes.
The Parents' Association raises
considerable sums of money to help the School by providing additional facilities for the
children. In the course of its existence, members of the Association have probably raised
in excess of £50,000 to improve facilities at Downsview. However, the major aim of the
Association is to involve parents in the life of the School |
| School journeys take place
each year for the children in Years 5 and 6. Year 5 go to Chelwood Gate for a week, where
environmental studies feature highly on the curriculum. Year 6 spend a week at Felden
Lodge, extending their knowledge of history, geography and conservation.

 We have had
a long-standing link with Rannebergen
Centrumskole in Gothenberg, and each year a group of Year 6 children take part in an
exchange trip with Swedish pupils. We help them learn English and sometimes even take some
of the lessons. Whilst there, we learn a lot about a different country which is also a
member of the European Union. Many of the teachers and families from Rannebergen have
visited Downsview over recent years. |
