Robert Thornsby
Administrative OfficeR
I commenced employment with Rochdale Council in August 1987 as a Pool Junior working in departments such as Direct Services, Chief Executives and Treasurers.
I eventually secured a permanent position in the Admin section of the Education department responsible for mail and committee work. I was seconded to the Community Education Service for 9 months during this role where I was a budget holder for the Adult Education Centres and Youth Clubs which involved ordering equipment and processing invoices.
In 1991 Education along with other Council departments decentralised to a new department called Neighbourhood Services. Our team was situated at the Hind Hill Centre in Heywood and were responsible for all personnel and governing body matters to a large group of schools.
Neighbourhood Services was unfortunately disbanded in July 1993 and I moved back to the dreaded Municipal Offices (The Black Box). I was now a Staffing Officer processing letters of appointmen
This fortunately came to an end in July 1996 when I was offered the post of Administrator at the EDIT team (Education Department Information
Technology) in the Education department and am now responsible for budget monitoring, ordering of equipment, processing of invoices and assistance to schools in IT matters.
I enjoy playing football, cricket and pool. I also DJ part-time and enjoy going to the Gym, playing megadrive games and having a few scoops with my mates.
