In the 7th century the prophet Muhammad founded a religion in Arabia which was to become a powerful force in the world. The religion is Islam. Its followers are called Muslims.

found in the main regions of the Middle East and North
Africa and of countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh,
Indonesia and Nigeria. However, Muslims have travelled
and settled in many countries round the world and formed
their own communities.
