CARE of the CHILD

Pastoral care is the responsibility of every member of the school community - it operates on the principle 'firm, fair and friendly!'

Staff are proactive in their dealings with youngsters and are supported in this by a specialist team led by a Deputy Headteacher.

In a caring environment nothing which creates anxiety or distress to a student is regarded as trivial, and good communication between home and school is vital if we are to ensure a happy and successful environment. We ask that all parents work 'with' the school to this end.

Good behaviour is based on self-discipline and a respect for others. A Code of Behaviour setting out our expectation is issued to all pupils when they join the school. Sanctions are used in accordance with the laid down procedures and are always delivered in a calm and consistent manner.

Medical CARE

The School Medical rooms are under the supervision of our qualified School Nurse.

We aim to treat youngsters who fall ill or who have health problems with care and sympathy in both school and medical contexts. It will assist us greatly if you can keep us informed of any medical problems which might affect your child's school life. All such information will, of course, be treated as strictly confidential.

If your son or daughter has been prescribed medication, it should be named and handed to the nurse who will dispense it as required. For reasons of safety, we ask that no student should carry supplies of pills or medicine.

If your child becomes ill in school, he or she should, after informing the teacher, report to the school nurse in the Medical Room. If it seems unlikely that the youngster will recover sufficiently to rejoin the class, we always try to contact you, so that, if at all possible, your son or daughter may be taken home. No sick child is ever allowed home unless an adult is there to care for him.

If a youngster is injured in school and there is any doubt about the treatment required, we will consult a member of the local practice or Fowey Hospital.

School doctors and dentists visit the school to carry out routine inspections and tests. You will always be informed in advance of any injections or medicals which are scheduled for your son or daughter so that he or she may be exempted if necessary.
