Any sixth year pupil can volunteer to become a Buddy. They then have an introductory session explaining what a Buddy does. After this session they decide if they are going ahead with the full training sessions. The Buddy system only operates with First Year pupils to help them with the move from Primary into Secondary.
The Buddies responsibilities are: Listening Chatting Offering practical help The Buddies will be allocated to each First Year registration class and they will have their photos on display in that class. They will be available to the First Year during interval in the Social Area, before Assembly and in their Registration class.
A Buddy will not deal with any of these: Health Issues Drugs Crime Abuse Bullying The Buddy will immediately tell the Guidance Teacher of the First Year pupil if any of these issues are brought up.
