Early applications for all Further Education college courses is recommended, especially to those courses which are very popular, eg. care, motor vehicle engineering, hairdressing, etc..
Second Year Pupils should be using their careers library to find out more about their chosen careers and to see if they need to do specific subjects at Standard Grade.
Continue applying for Further Education courses.
The careers adviser will be available at lunch times for all Second Year pupils who want help with subject choice.
If you are leaving school in Summer, does your Guidance teacher know? Make sure you ask your Careers Adviser about Skillseekers. If you would like to leave school but you are not eligible to leave school until Christmas, then you should speak to your careers adviser about exceptional entry to College.
Fishing Training - see your Careers Adviser for an application form. Courses start in May or June.
Oil Technician - check the local newspapers and school vacancy board for vacancies.
Job hunting - start contacting local employers for possible vacancies. March is not too early to do this. Remember there are lots of people looking for jobs so the sooner you start looking the better. Make up a personal information sheet (CV) to send to employers. See your Careers Adviser for help on devising a CV.
If you are considering a college course, make sure your application is in. Remember you can apply for jobs as well, then make a choice later.
Are you returning to school? Are you sure what subjects to take? If necessary check about entry requirements for jobs and courses.
Applications for exceptional entry to College have to be completed by the end of the month.
Continue job search - check local newspapers and the school vacancy board. Continue contacting local employers.
If you are leaving school check with your Careers Adviser to see if there will be a school leaver talk. It is important that you attend this talk to get valuable help looking for work/training.
If you have a definite offer of a college place then you can start applying for finance.
Look out for CITB and SECTT tests, they may be being held this month.
If you have applied for Art College check when your portfolio needs to be submitted.

If you are looking for work, register at the careers office. This means that the careers office will know that you have left school and will notify you of any suitable vacancies. Ring the Careers Service on Freephone 0800 454433 and an appointment will be made for you.
The new Fourth Year classes will get a talk from the Careers Adviser on the options available to them post-16. All Fourth Year pupils will be offered the chance of an individual careers interview throughout the year, so it is important that they think about what careers may interest them so that they come well prepared.
Your Careers Adviser will be in the Academy at exam results time to discuss any changes to your plans. She can also provide help with late applications to college and university, vacancy clearing, choosing subjects, etc..
Try to arrange some work experience to help you decide what you would like to do when you leave school.
Start preparing to apply for Higher Education courses, if you are going in to Sixth Year.

If you are going to be applying for Higher Education (HE) then attend the HE Convention in Aberdeen. Representatives from most of the universities in Scotland will be there, so if you have any questions about HE then now is the time to ask.
Get your UCAS application form from your Guidance Teacher.
Your Careers Adviser will be doing talks to Fifth and Sixth Year classes. If you want an individual interview to discuss career plans then now is the time to arrange one.

Start you portfolio for art related courses and architecture.
