REVISING YOUR WORK FOR EXAMINATIONS

Fraserburgh Academy's guiding principle is to help all of our pupils to develop their talents and skills.

This will allow them to live fuller lives and contribute more to a productive and diverse society.

REVISING YOUR WORK FOR EXAMINATIONS

It can be quite frightening when you are faced with lots of work to do to prepare for class tests or national examinations, You might find the top five tips helpful in each element of your revision:

GETTING DOWN TO WORK
Make a detailed and realistic timetable to work to.
Tell someone each day's plan; it is harder to get out of it.
Reward yourself with a break for each session completed.
Only study with a friend who is serious about the work.
Think how great it will be to pass.
What is so important that it is worth messing that up for?

SENSIBLE REVISION
Make a revision timetable and stick to it.
Plan for 30 minute work sessions with short breaks.
Be active. Don't just read; write, draw, ask yourself questions, practice, talk to yourself, test yourself whatever works, do it!
Change subject from time to time; it is less stressful!
Schedule times for fun and friends; that way, you will not waste time or burn out.

BOOSTING YOUR MEMORY
Shorten your class notes to the briefest possible form.
If you are a picture person, use diagrams and patterns.
If you are a word person, use rhymes and word-pairs.
Leave notes stuck where you will see them
- on your TV or favourite poster.
Do not just read: write, draw, ask, practice - whatever!

PRESENTATION OF WORK
When starting a new piece of work
• Put the date.
• Put a heading or exercise number.
• Check spelling.
• Always read over your work.
