Study Skills

Try to think positively about your school work

• Think how good you'll feel if you do well in your assessments and exams
• Think how pleased other people e.g. friends, parents, grandparents etc. will be when you do well
• Think about the qualifications you could get, where they could take you, what you could do
• Focus on these points and try not to think about what you're missing at the moment!

Get fit to study

• Take some exercise
• Get enough sleep
• Go out in the fresh air
• Study where there is plenty of light
• Take breaks (concentration falls off if you study too long without a break)

So! Set goals for yourself and .....

• Don't put things off to the last minute.
• List all the work you have to do and decide how much time you have to spend on each subject. (You'll find it easier to do homework sooner, after the class, rather than later).
• Try to do your homework at the same time each night so that you will develop a routine.
• Never say you don't have homework, look over what you did in class each day and your life will be much easier at exam time.
