1. To enhance the pupils' abilities to generate ideas for designs in response to a wide range of realistic technological problems. Pupils should explore, develop, clarify and communicate those ideas by a variety of constructive means and using a range of equipment.

2. To enable the pupils to appreciate the health and safety issues associated with working with food, fabrics, utensils, equipment and processes, and to take such matters into account when designing and making their own products, and in their roles as critics or consumers.

3. To enable the pupils to understand, and to develop their knowledge of, the characteristics and properties of a variety of materials and to manipulate those materials by the accurate and effective use of appropriate utensils, equipment, techniques and processes in order to produce an intended outcome.

4. To help them to develop an understanding of the needs of members of Society and identify the Services in the community to meet such needs, taking into account moral, ethical and environmental issues.

5. To enable them to experience the personal satisfaction and enjoyment in successfully completing tasks while enhancing their awareness of, and respect for, the values, attitudes and contributions of others.
