Purpose and contribution of the subject
Modern Studies
makes a distinctive contribution to the curriculum. Study of the
subject develops an understanding of fundamental processes which
underpin political and social life. These processes are considered
in local, national and international contexts which are both relevant
and significant. The structured understanding gained in this way
can be applied in other situations. Modern Studies gives appropriate
emphasis to the skills of communicating, learning, creative thinking,
critical evaluation of the media and the utilisation of information
technology, thus contributing to the overall development of the
