The Physical Education Department in Fraserburgh Academy seeks to develop the whole individual through a series of activities and learning experiences which will increasingly challenge the physical, mental and social capabilities of that pupil/student. Although the physical aspect will always be the main priority, the act of performing will also be used to encourage the learning of observation and evaluative skills both of self and peers. The Physical Education Department also seeks to develop the individual in social terms through working in pairs and groups where communication and team work will become important. Aspects such as personal hygiene, diet and general health will be discussed and emphasised. Fitness testing and the recording of results and data will be used to demonstrate the value of appropriate exercise along with the other health related issues. In this increasingly technological age there is a changing role for physical education and sport related industry in general. As it is very much a developing field it is vital that we encourage all individual pupils/students to investigate the many varied avenues now available to them and that we provide the appropriate experience to meet those needs. In general, the Physical Education Department will endeavour to provide the pupils/students with every opportunity to improve their physical abilities in competitive and non-competitive situations. A strong emphasis will be placed at all times on participation and enjoyment.
