Year 5

INTRODUCTION

In year five there are two classes with 32 children in each class. The teachers are Mrs Evans and Mr Strevens.

Mrs Evans' class

In Mrs Evans' class we've all known each other for a very ,VERY long time and most of the time we all get along well.

Mrs Evans is obsessed with science so that is what we do a lot of the time. We also do geography, maths, english, technology, history, art and P.E. Our topics this year were energy, "You've been framed", "Oliver " and "Conservation".

We have taken photos and printed them, made videos and recorded sound stories. We visited the National Waterways Museum. This term we have made a rainforest structure and we are designing some mechanism's which make animals and plants move. We have also been out doing some field work in Lawn Woods.

We have group tables which are Poles, Deserts, Oceans, Mountains and Rainforests.

Most of us like using computers and, of course we like the Spice Girls!

Mr Strevens' Class

In class, Mr Strevens' children cover lots of subjects like science, English, maths and technology. On Friday his children have half an hour to play educational games or do work. Mr Strevens likes computers, football and science. When his class does games Mr Strevens always takes the the footballers or sprinters . In art his class are making a moving rainforest with some jumping frogs a circling snake, bouncing spider, growing mushroom and a mushroom with spores.

These are some of the things we have done this year:

ART WEEK

Every year we have a curriculum week. This year the subject was Art. In Art week we made large kites of all different shapes and sizes.

VICTORIAN DAY

Last term our topic was 'The Victorians' and on the last day of term we dressed up like Victorian children. Our teachers treated us like Victorian children and dressed up too. We had Victorian lessons and the girls did a bit of P.E. while the boys did a drill.

TRIP TO THE BBC

On 15/3/97 our classes went to the BBC. Two children from our classes were chosen to appear on a TV programme. The rest of us went along to support them.  Look out for us on television on 1st August!

FOOTBALL TEAM

We have a brilliant footie team which won the league this season.

Our highest score was 6-1 against Park South.  Our coach is Mr. Strevens.

NETBALL TEAM

We have a netball team who are also quite likely to win their league. Their highest score was 17-0 against Goddard Park. Our coaches are Mrs.Wilkins + Mrs.Hulford.

STUDENTS

During Art week some students came in to work with our classes. They helped us make our big kites. They stayed with us for 2 weeks then went to another school.

SPLISH

We've just done a play about fishes with some really neat songs. The main characters were Splish, Splash, Lumpsucker, Wiggle, Mullet and Herring. The story showed how important conservation is.

EGG RACE

We usually have an egg race every year. This is when we have to put an egg on a vehicle and, without pushing or using our hands, we have to move the egg as far as possible in 10 seconds.

EGG DECORATING

We also have an egg decorating competition every year, where you decorate an egg. The best wins.

WATERWAYS MUSEUM

Last term we went to the Waterways Museum. we looked round the museum in the morning and in the afternoon we went to the schoolroom. The school room had jigsaws that you could do and canal art. Canal art is lots of flowers painted close together. The people who lived on the barges painted all their pots and took great pride over it. The lady in the schoolroom got us dressed how the Victorians would have dressed and then took us on to a barge.

RED NOSE

On Red nose day our school raised money by dressing up. There was everything from hippies to big red noses, karate people to animals. Even the Teachers dressed up in crazy costumes.

LAWN WOODS OUTING

We went to Lawn Woods as our topic was conservation . We did a tree trail, looked for bugs and looked at all the different plants we could find in grass. We found about 17 different plants.

CHRISTMAS PLAY

For our Christmas play we presented "SANTA'S COMPUTER VOYAGE". The main characters were Santa, Hippie Mrs Santa, CD, Rom, Mo and Dem.
