This small web-site
contains a series of discussion starters. They are written from the viewpoint
of someone living 100 years from now and attempts to imagine, on the basis
of the increasing rate of technological innovation how life might be affected
for good or ill. These pages were written by some Girvan Academy students
8 years ago so some of them are already out of date. This is one of the
major teaching uses of these pages as many of the predictions are already
coming true. Students can choose to investigate these in any order but should
be encouraged to consider the following: |
are the views
expressed optimistis or pessimistic |
how well do the
photographs match the text |
which of the predictions
have already come true |
do you think you
would be happy with these advances in technology |
can you think
of how you would alter any of these discussion starters |
these discussion
starters can be used in many different curriculer areas eg |
Information Technology:
investigate the 'Big Brother' aspect of data handling |
English: use the
starters as stimuli for both imaginative and discursive essays |
Geography: how
possible might it be to control the weather as described |
Modern Studies:
