Eberswalde in Germany

We now have a link with Grundschule Schwarzesee, Eberswalde, in the east of Germany close to the capital Berlin and the border with Poland. Katrin Kannewischer and Renate Klink from the school visited UK in October 1999 to begin a new 3 year project. They were accompanied by Herbert Klepp and Monika Anzenberger from our partner school in Austria.

We carried out a full programme of visits as well as making links with children and teachers in Hadley. We visited  a Comprehensive school, Ercall Wood and Redhill Primary as well as our feeder Infant school, Hadley Infants and we hope our visitors got an all round impression of the British system which differs in many respects from the continental approach.

We also visited Mid Wales for a tour of CAT and King Arthurs' Labyrinth and despite some wet weather we had a very enjoyable and instructive day.

We have decided to continue with our literature theme of studying myths and legends together, as well as compiling a joint calendar using art from children in the three schools. We are also going to exchange weather information, hopefully by email as the German school also goes online.

Plans were made for the three schools to meet again in Eberswalde in June 2000.
