My classroom by Cathy Louise Leek
In my classroom at the moment we are learning about the Victorians. So far we have learned a lot about the mines and chimney sweeps who were often orphans or boys. They had to climb up chimneys and clean them out. They had to climb with lots of equipment and a lots of children died from sooty cancer. The miners sometimes got gassed.
In Science we are learning about materials. We mix them up and have to try and separate them with sieves. We are also learning about dissolving.
In English we are learning about commas and so far we have learned that there are four different kinds. In Maths we are doing fractions and decimals and it's hard because Mrs Turner makes us do number lines bigger than a metre with numbers from zero to one.
In Art we looked at William Morris designs. We have to take his ideas and our own and sketch them. In music we have been doing 'African Jigsaw' with Mrs Jarvis and my best song is 'Shanty Town' because it has got a beat to it that I like.
Well, anyway, the teachers I have are Mr J.Newton and he is very strict and if you want my opinion I wouldn't mess with him. Mrs Turner is my Maths teacher and on Thursdays Ms Watkins helps my table. Mr Newton is my proper teacher for English, group reading, Science and History. Last of all is my Headteacher, Mr Jones, you would laugh when you hear his poems when he reads them.
In Wednesdays' we have a 'STAR' lesson, when police officers come into school and teach us about drugs and things like that. In the last lesson we all got presented with a certificate. The PC's name is PS Reck and he said when he gets home he sometimes feels like a wreck. In the last couple of lessons he has been bringing a girl student who wants to do what he does. They have taught us a lot. In school we have two students, one is in Mrs Turner's class. Thank you for your time.
Mr. Newtons' class.
This term in Science we will be doing the Sun, Moon and the planets. So far we have done some work on how the Earth rotates around the sun and how we get day and night and why we get longer and shorter days and nights.
We have also been doing a lot of story writing because we have got our SATS next term. Mr. Newton has read lots of beginnings of different stories to us. So far we have looked at legends, fables, fairy tales. science fiction and myths.
In Maths, it's division that we're working on at the moment and it's quite hard at times, but when you get the hang of it, it's not too hard. Most of the work that we get is challenging which is good, but sometimes we get a rest when we do art and music.
