Some of the solar panels that we studied.
Solar panels don't produce electricity, they heat the water directly. They work by the sun shining on them and a pipe goes from the panels to a tub of water and it will heat it. The panels don't have to be used for just one thing. They can have another pipe running through other things like radiators. Solar panels are cheaper but they do have disadvantages, no sun... no heat and they are not a pretty sight. The heat is free once you have put them in.
