Fly the Flag

In 735 A.D. at Athelstaneford in East Lothian a combined army of Scots and Picts knelt to pray for victory over their Northumbrian foes. As they prayed, a white St Andrews Cross appeared in the deep blue sky. This omen spurred them onto victory, and Angus McFergus, King of the Picts adopted the white cross on a blue background as his battle standard. This, according to legend, was how the Saltire, which later became the flag of Scotland, came into existence.

The Saltire evoked fear in the hearts of Scotland's enemies on numerous battlefields and even today the sight of it frightens our Unionist opponents. In Fife, on Unitary authority election day, Labour activists insisted that a presiding officer remove a Saltire which was flying from a school which was serving as a polling station. The Labour party were afraid that the sight of the Saltire would sway voters into voting SNP. In Perth and Kinross during the by-election, the Tories handed out Union flags in response to the SNP handing out Saltires. On the streets Saltires outnumbered Union flags a hundred times over and many voters were attaching Saltires to their SNP posters.

The oldest flag in existence is a five thousand year old metal Iranian one, and since time immemorial, peoples have rallied to their flags to express their solidarity and independence. We at Freedom's Sword believe that the Saltire should be flown from every public building in Scotland and that the Saltire should fly higher than any other flag. We urge you to pressurise your council, college, workplace etc. to fly the flag of Scotland. No more should the "Butcher's Apron" (The Union Jack) be flown over our land and only replaced on St Andrew's Day as a token gesture. We must reclaim our heritage, our past, our flag and our nation. Let the Saltire become a symbol of Scottish independence and let Unionists fear its presence as a concrete reminder of how the days of the Union are numbered. Let us look forward to the day when the Saltire will fly once again alongside the other flags of the world.
