Scotland - Rise and be a Nation again !

The natural state for a nation is independence. In 1320, following the long Wars of Independence, Scots reaffirmed their status as a sovereign nation in The Declaration of Arbroath. This document was a direct appeal to Pope John XXII ordering Edward I, King of England, to stop harrying Scotland.

In 1707 that hard won Independence was sold out by the ruling elite and the Scots Parliament was dissolved. So to was the English Parliament, and a new Parliament of Great Britain was formed. The tactics employed by England to get Union were dirty. Threats of war, acts of piracy against Scots merchant ships, and promises of land and title for the ruling elite. The Act of Union which currently binds Scotland to England was never ratified, as the Scots Parliament feared there would be massed riots throughout the country if it was. The people were 100 to 1 against Union.

Parallels between that early Declaration of Arbroath and the later American Declaration of Independence are clear. Both were a statement of human rights asserting the self-determination of a nation, and both were fuelled by the catalyst of arrogant Anglo-Saxon imperialism.

In 1776 Independence in America was viewed as a victory for the common man and common sense against over-bearing colonialism. Sadly that colonialism is still alive and thriving today in the 'United' Kingdom ...but fortunately is now under attack. Scotland is reawakening as a nation to her true potential. For years she has suffered under colonial rule. Her people have voted one way, the English another, yet by force of numbers the English choice of Government is elected. This injustice cannot continue.....

Despite our vast natural resources (oil, gas, timber, fish, whisky, computers) and small population, 30% of Scots live below the official EU poverty line. Our wealth has not benefited Scotland, but has been taken to prop up an ailing 'UK' economy. Some $180bn in oil revenue has been swallowed up by the London exchequer since 1975, and still the plum jobs remain in England. Scotland is perhaps the only country to discover oil - and get poorer as a result.
