10th November, l999. Dear Parents, First of all a big thank you to everyone who supported our harvest appeal. We received a wonderful array of foods and produce all of which was distributed either locally to Grangemead home for the elderly or, in the case of tinned goods, to the Salvation Army in Eastbourne. The residents of Grangemead were as thrilled with the goods taken to them, as they were with the mini concert of songs presented by the older pupils who took the produce. In a letter the secretary of the Salvation Army in Eastbourne asked that her thanks be conveyed to everyone on behalf of the increasing number of those in need in Eastbourne. No sooner had the harvest music been packed away, than out came the new material for Christmas, which the children are now busy preparing for their various performances. More details of the latter will be coming to you shortly. Finally, can I ask you all to exercise special care when driving to and from school and when parking nearby. Darker evenings bring with them extra hazards for all children, particularly those who cross the road and walk to and from home. I have recently received complaints from nearby residents who have understandably been unhappy at being unable to drive in and out of their own forecourts. I am sure we all appreciate the potential hazards at drop off and pick up times and we all have our part to play in reducing the risk of accidents. We have a vacancy for a cleaner for 2 hours per day after school (10 hours per week) as from January 2000. The rate per hour is £4.07. If you are interested please call in to the office for an application form. Yours sincerely,
