In the picture you see a figure sitting on a stool who is painting a portrait of a woman. The figure is seen on the back and is on the right side of the picture. The woman is in the middle of the picture at the back. She wears a blue dress, is holding a yellow book and is standing on in front of a tapestry on the left side of it.

You're looking from behind a curtain which covers ¼ of the painting. It is painted very dark. The rest of the picture is also painted with quite dark colours except for the woman and part of the tapestry. It looks here as if there's a window, on the left side behind the curtain, where light is coming trough and is shining on the woman.

It isn't clear what was painted on the tapestry but there are some horizontal lines on both sides.
There's a white & black tiled floor and on the ceiling hangs a simple chandelier of gold. It isn't shiny and it's arms are bend upwards.

The only wall you see is the back wall which is white. Furthermore there's a quite massive table with a piece of cloth on it. Part of it falls away behind the curtain.

The painting is painted realistic and the mood is a bit sad because of the dark colours.
